Although the vast majority of respondents – 9 out of 10 – said that hard work was the key to making progress in life, they also identified several potential barriers to success.
Financial constraints emerged as the main concern and were cited by 30% of respondents. Other barriers included lack of access to a professional network (22%), a difficult job market (19%), low job skills (18%) and limited orientation and guidance ( 18%).
These concerns particularly restricted potential entrepreneurs. Nearly half, or 48%, said that financial factors prevented them from setting up their own business, while more than a quarter, about 28%, felt that they did not have the necessary contacts.
At the same time, respondents from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines indicated a preference for work-life balance, which may also reflect their professional motivation.
