Janet Jackson delivers a moving and emotional speech on women's empowerment at MTV's EMAs

Janet Jackson uses her platform to empower women.

The 52-year-old singer received Sunday's Global Icon Award at the MTV European Music Awards and took advantage of her speech to talk about gender equality, justice and love.

"I accept this award with deep gratitude, to be called an icon is a huge honor, but one that carries a huge responsibility," she told the crowd in Bilbao, Spain. "Tonight I am moved to speak for women whose voice has been stifled."

"I am one of those women," she continued. "Women who have been gagged, both literally and emotionally, women who have been abused, women who have been intimidated, women who have lived in fear, I am with you, you are my sisters."

The pop star then spoke of his hope for a more equal future.

"Tonight, I hope that a new world is emerging," she said. "A world in which caring people, men and women, will no longer tolerate gender inequality.Women, our voices will be heard.We will be heard when we claim justice."

"Speak for a spirit that crosses all borders, recognizes the dignity of all people and affirms the beauty of all religions, speak for acts of true charity, young and old, speak for a love that embraces everything, because Is love that a love that will give us the strength to help one another, "she concluded. "So let's raise our voices, let's start today, and let God's ever-amazing love lead the way."

Jackson ended his speech by expressing his love for his fans and his one-year-old son, Eissa Al Mana. "Mom loves you," she said.

After his moving speech, Jackson then performed three of his hits, "Made For Now", "Rhythm Nation" and "All For You".

Last August, Jackson received the Impact Award from the Radio Disney Music Awards and gave the radio station a new uplifting speech for those seeking a place in the music industry.

"Never lose sight of your dreams, first and foremost," Jackson said at the time. "Keep God in your heart, that's important. [And] stay on the ground. It's important … I started at seven in the industry [and] I think it's important to make sure you always listen to your mother, listen to your parents. Stay focused. "

"Make sure you do not waste your time working, but also being a child and enjoying the things kids love in life," she added. "Be with your friends, have fun."
