Manchester United continues to search for the next Park Ji-sung or Shinji Kagawa, according to their East Asian scout.
Kei Tamura covers Japan and South Korea for the English giants and, after recommending a Kagawa teenager to Cerezo Osaka in 2006, the Japan-based talent detective would like nothing more than to take a new generation of superstars from the area at Old Trafford.
"I'm looking for the second Park Ji-sung and Kagawa's successor," Tamura told Sports Seoul during a visit to watch the Pohang Steelers face Jeonbuk Motors in the K-League.
"I keep track of players who can be so good."
The scout added that he was part of a global network of talent seekers, tasked with searching for players with specific characteristics sought after by United's boss, Jose Mourinho.
"We are looking for players who meet the specific criteria of head coach Jose Mourinho," he said. "The head of the scouting team meets Mourinho and is presented with detailed instructions."
Tamura admitted that finding the next Asian superstar would not only help Manchester United to beat the top of the Premier League, but that there would also be benefits off the field.
"There is no doubt that the signing of Korean and Japanese players can have a positive effect on the Asian market," added Tamura.
"That's not the reason they are selected, however, the first thing we consider is competence."
