Shell awarded McDermott International an underwater installation contract for its Great White Frio project in the Gulf of Mexico, United States.
McDermott, headquartered in Houston, will install a flexible flow pipe ranging from the well to the end of a pipeline, a 200-foot steel jumper cable and two electrical cables, as part of umbilical and flow contract of installation.
The water depth at Great White Frio is 8,000 feet.
The contractor plans to complete the offshore installation work in the middle of next year.
McDermott did not indicate any contractual value, but described it as "significant", which corresponds to a contract valued between $ 1 million and $ 50 million.
The Great White Frio project is part of the Perdido complex located in block 857 of Alaminos Canyon. The center of Perdido, whose production began in 2011, processes oil and gas from the Great White, Tobago and Silvertip fields.
Great White is a part of the Lower Tertiary Paleogene.
In August, McDermott signed an underwater contract with Shell for work on contaminated sites in the Perdido project.
The contractor builds and installs a single line of flexible traffic and an umbilical at the Silvertip site.
The contract for engineering, procurement, construction and installation also involves flying electrical cables and pre-commissioning.
McDermott will provide project management and engineering from his Houston base. The offshore installation is scheduled for next year with his ship North Ocean 102.
