Moussa Sissoko was coveted by Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham coach; a player he trusted. However, many Spurs fans ruthlessly followed the player on social media and questioned his presence as a regular Spurs player. The attitude and application of Sissoko have never stopped and, against Chelsea Saturday at Wembley, he showed what Pochettino sees in the solid midfielder.

Moussa Dembele being absent until early 2019 and Victor Wanyama fighting for some form of fitness, the Spurs have a hole in the middle of the field. Harry Winks played well when he was called, but Moussa Sissoko became an essential part of the Pochettino team.

Fans have not always appreciated his efforts, but we can not say he does not give 100% every time he puts on the Spurs shirt. It sometimes looks bulky, like an octopus with legs and arms restless. Some of his shots have been clumsy at best and he does not seem to stand out from the very talented crowd that surrounds him.

At Poch the players trust

Pochettino is not the kind of manager to listen to what people tell him that he should do. If he believes in a player, he thinks that they are chosen because he knows that they add something to the dynamics of the team. Against Crystal Palace, Moussa Sissoko made a mazy run that, if he had scored, could have been a contender at goal of the season. The defenders of the palace bounced and no one could remove the balloon. It was a sign of the willingness to go from the front it has.

Heung Min-Son, Harry Kane and Dele Alli all made the headlines after Chelsea's win. Yet Moussa Sissoko was probably at the heart of everything Tottenham did well. He participated in four challenges and won each and every one of them. Strong, sturdy but fair. On Twitter, Spurs Stat tweeted Sissoko's statistics:

These are statistics that N'Golo Kante would have been proud to have in his name. Sissoko almost completely destroyed the Chelsea midfielder. It was not only his tackle, but his talent, his tenacity and his desire to progress. The only chance he created was for Harry Kane, who managed to make his way. His pace is also remarkable. He came back on the occasion when the opposition players had a start of ten meters. Impressive, indeed.

Moussa Sissoko – His time has come

Moussa Sissoko also creates a space for his entourage. While choosing Chelsea midfielder as a sniper, Alli, Son and Christian Eriksen all benefited from the extra space he gave them. That's why Sissoko is now an integral, if not vital, part of the Pochettino puzzle. A much-maligned player is becoming loved and admired by the followers of Tottenham. A truly inspiring story about how application and attitude can bring out the best in football; a footballer who will now start to be feared in the Premier League. It's really a story of positivity in the face of negativity.
