Less than a month after the announcement of his acquisition by Microsoft, Obsidian Entertainment is ready to unveil its next major release. On Wednesday afternoon, the company announced the launch of a "special message" on December 6 at the "Game Awards". This title, which has not yet been named, will be an RPG drawn from a brand new intellectual property, published by sister publisher 2K for freelancers. Private Division studios (agreement reached before the acquisition of Microsoft).

This announcement consists of two special teasers and two commercials around the world. You can find them on the official Obsidian website. The teasers are both countdowns for The 2018 Game Awards, featuring logos for what appears to be top-notch companies from the game. The first one calls Auntie Cleo's and the second Spacer's Choice. Each one has its own advertisement. And both are already helping to establish the kind of personality that the new Obsidian game embraces.

Both advertisements will probably be familiar to experienced players. The first, Aunt Cléo, claims the slogan "Better Than Nature!" For her selection of breads, skin creams, ointments and medications. The second, for Spacer's Choice handguns, is the "It's not the best choice, it's Spacer's Choice!" Stores. Both commercials channel a retro and western style. Comparisons to Fall, or even BioShock, are inevitable.

Comparisons between the new game Obsidian and Fall are inevitable for more than one reason. Two of the creators behind the original FallTim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky both work at Obsidian on a project yet to be announced. Given what has been teased so far, this project and this one are probably the same, called Project Indiana at the studio.

Here's what Boyarsky said about the project and why he joined Obsidian to work with Tim Cain again:

"I have failed to work on single-player RPGs, with a lot of choices, consequences and responsiveness. I like to create other types of games, but the type of games we started with Fallout has something special that interests us and speaks to us creatively. "

Both said their new project would recall the original Fall, especially with regard to their unique sense of black humor.

Little is known about the new Obsidian game, but there is every reason to believe that it is a CRPG quite similar to the original game. Fall and sharing similarities with recent obsidian projects, including Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny. It may not be what Obsidian fans hope to have Fallout: New Vegas spiritual successor were looking for but even Fall had to start somewhere. And with Microsoft, which now owns Obsidian, including this new IP, who knows what will follow.

Stay tuned for the announcement by Obsidian at the 2018 Game Awards on December 6th at 9:00 pm ET.
