SINGAPORE – Authorities are investigating a blackout observed in a Potong Pasir canal.

The videos posted on the Nature Society (Singapore) Facebook page on Saturday morning (January 19th), and shared with The Straits Times, show a black substance of ink that enters the channel, which then spreads and quickly cloud the water.

In response to ST's questions, the PUB said it received a report signaling a spill in an outlet drain of Potong Pasir Avenue 1 at 10:20 am on Saturday.

"The officers and contractors of the PUB immediately investigated," said Sunday the national water agency, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

No dump was found on the site when the officers arrived because it could have been diluted with water in the canal, PUB said.

Samples were taken from the canal water, he said.

"Online water quality sensors and in situ water quality surveys have shown that water quality is in the normal range. water quality over the next few days, "said a spokesman for PUB.

The National Environment Agency said it knew and was investigating.

In the videos, a construction site and a crane of the Lian Beng group are immediately visible next to the canal.

ST understands that a condominium is under construction on the site and that the canal leads to the Kallang River.

Mr. Ted Ng, 34, who visits the area to photograph wildlife, said he saw the black liquid flowing twice in the canal.

Several nearby residents have also whipped their phones to take pictures and videos, added the administrator who works in the finance industry.

Mr. Ng told ST that he feared that birds, fish and otters from the area would be affected. His friend later alerted the authorities, he said.

Subaraj Rajathurai, seasoned wildlife expert, said that the presence of a black runoff could mean oil or land within the site.

ST also contacted the Lian Beng group for more information.
