"Orange is the new black" has achieved early success for Netflix and has maintained its massive popularity since its premiere in 2013.

The first seasons burned the # 39, plot, and the quality has taken a slight decline after all these years. But with prison walls as a narrative constraint, the show did a great job mining new stories of this claustrophobic setting. After six seasons with long episodes, the show still stands.

This season focuses on transferring some main characters to a different prison with more security. Although the show is still taking place in a prison, the new framework allows writers to experiment with different characters.

Much like Rachel Kushner's recent bestseller The March Room "Orange" continues to shed light on America's need for prison reform. This in itself deserves admiration. If the popularity of this show convinces voters, this issue needs support, so it's a victory that goes beyond any narrative success.
