Reigns – a four-time WWEchampion – was forced to heartbreakingly step away from the ring last month as he revealed a secret fight with leukemia.

Having just won the WWE Universal Championship, Reigns announced on Raw he was surrendering the belt due and going on hiatus.

The 33-year-old revealed he had overcome a battle with leukemia 11-years-ago – but the cancer was now back.

Roman’s cousin Lance Anoa’i admitted the family have “no idea” on a timeframe for him to return to WWE.

Wrestling insiders have also confirmed discussions for his return are “a long way off”.

“I knew about the cancer 11 years ago when he was in college, and he beat it once and can do it again”

Speaking to Wrestling Inc., Lance said: “We have no idea on a time frame yet [for his WWE return] but we hope it is sooner than later.

“I know, just like his family, all of the fans of the WWE Universe want to see him back. Me and Roman, well Joe, we’ve gotten very close lately with me doing a lot of extra work with WWE.

“He’s been like a role model to me so hearing the news, I took it very hard.

Wrestling insider Dave Meltzer confirmed in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Reigns has begun treatment for leukemia.

He said any discussions for date to make a comeback are a “long way off”.

The champ had been positioned as the face of the WWE for the past few years when he was hit by the resurgence of leukemia.

Reigns is currently scheduled to make an appearance at comic convention ACE Comic Con in Phoenix, Arizona, in January.

His pal Seth Rollins also opened up about his condition – saying he thinks about Reigns every day during an interview with Al Arabiya.

The WWE Intercontinental Champion said: “I’m fighting the urge to check in on him like a brother every two hours, but he’s a strong dude, and I know that he’s in a good place mentally as well as physically.

“He’s in good health for the most part.

“I think he’s going to be able to fight this thing pretty strong. We’re just getting through it while we can”

Reigns’ hiatus from WWE shocked the wrestling world and triggered a mass outpouring of messages of support for him.

He had never before mentioned his private health battle, so the announcement left fans stunned as he walked away on Raw.

UFC fighter Brock Lesnar has picked up his mantle as WWE Universal Champion after beating Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel.

Strowman is in trouble backstage due a few run-ins with management, according to reports.
