With a capacity of 2 and 4TB, this SATAa 6Gbps SSD drive is much cheaper than the competition. It's also a very fast drive and a fast burner, until you run out of cache. At the 1 TB level, however, there are cheaper discs that do not slow down even when writing large sets of data.

This pushes the boundaries of what SATA III can do and that is all that can be expected from the aging interface. Samsung guarantees 860 QVO drives a 3-year warranty and endurance up to 1440 TBW, depending on the capacity of the drive you are looking at. With low prices, solid performance and respectable endurance, the 860 QVO series is a winning ad.

We are talking now! 15 cents per GB. The MSRP for * everything * decent SSD is definitely music to my ears. Admittedly, the performance is not comparable to that of Pro, but at these prices, it is not difficult to justify certain concessions. I would like to see improved caching performance on this 4TB model, and if Samsung hopes to offer more QLC products, it will need to improve these low QD randomness latencies.

Samsung has updated (increased) its prices shortly before launch. We have updated this article to reflect the new price tag. At the moment, the EVO makes more sense.

If you're looking for a new SATA-based SSD, the Samsung 860 QVO delivers acceptable performance, high capacity, and enough stamina to satisfy most users. The only thing missing is the lower price we expect from QLC SSDs.

The current price of TLC SSD disrupts the 4-bit MLC supposed to offer higher capacities for less money

The new Samsung 860 QVO only loses a small distance compared to its sister and sister models, the difference remaining between 0 and 20% according to the reference program.

QLC NAND is basically about sacrificing quality for the sake of quantity. The viability of QLC SSDs is based on the assumption that existing disks are more than fast enough, which is certainly the case with many Samsung SSDs. The Samsung 860 QVO is not as fast or as energy efficient as the 860 EVO, but that's not necessarily the case.

The Samsung 860 QVO uses the new 3-bit technology to increase the density of a 2.5 "SATA drive while maintaining performance and reducing costs. Although not as fast as an NVMe drive, the 860 QVO will meet the needs of the overwhelming majority in its daily use.

In summary, the QVO 860 can boot Windows and load applications with SSD speed, but it does not seem able to handle its caching tips efficiently enough to achieve consistent file transfer speeds. At the price that Samsung wants, the QVO is a pill hard to swallow. Instead, we suggest buying cheap TLC discs while bonanzas holiday sales are still underway. Give QLC a little more time to cook before opening this oven.

While its random read speed may not be the best in its class compared to other 2.5-inch SSDs, the difference is so small that any performance offset is largely outweighed by its lower cost. If you finally want to say goodbye to your old hard drive and opt for one large storage device as the main SSD, the Samsung 860 Qvo is a hard game to beat.

The use of flash memory eliminates the problems of buffering Atmos HDR 4K streams over the network (high-resolution video from a NAS to a player such as an NVIDIA Shield TV). Media junkies have quickly found that hard drives are not fast enough without a powerful processor on the NAS to keep data flowing smoothly. The QVO, with better pricing, would fulfill this role.
