SINGAPORE – Beginning Sunday, November 25, from 4 pm, residents of Punggol will have a new route to get on the Kallang-Paya Lebar (KPE) and Tampines Expressway (TPE) highways, in order to reduce the number of passengers. 39, clutter of motorists. just to go on the fast lanes.

A new extension of the existing Punggol Central Road will lead motorists to Halus Link, which will then connect to KPE (East Coast Parkway) and TPE (Changi).

The works are part of a $ 185 million KPE-TPE intersection expansion, aimed at reducing traffic jams on the TPE as well as the network of roads leading to the northeastern city.

The Straits Times announced earlier this month that work needed to be completed earlier, thanks to technologies such as virtual modeling and prefabricated construction.

The extension of the Punggol Central Road was originally scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2019.

Mrs. Wendy Tock, 53, resident of Punggol Central, described the traffic on the property as "very bad".

"With the new houses being created in the area, there are a lot of people, you have to leave the house before 6:45 am on weekdays, otherwise you have to queue for one hour on Punggol Drive, which is about 1 km long."

Mr. Liu Bo, 36, a leader in the electronics industry, said that he drove the TPE daily to and from his workplace at Pasir Ris.

"Sometimes it can take more than an hour just to get to the highway," Liu said.

Without traffic, the journey to his office takes about 15 minutes.

"I hope things will get better and that commuting to work may be more convenient now," said Punggol East resident.

By the second quarter of next year, motorists traveling on the TPE (towards Pan Island Expressway) will be able to access the central Punggol Highway when Halus Link will also be open to traffic in that direction.
