Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that there would be "no quick fix" in Manchester United, because he wants to see them face both on the national and European front.

United succumbed to a 3-0 defeat in Barcelona midweek, putting an end to its Champions League campaign at the quarter-finals stage, while it still has a battle to play to finish in the top four.

Solskjaer, who immediately focuses on a tough week in which they will play Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea in the space of eight days, knows that he can not solve everything by doing a series of signings this summer.

Speaking before his trip to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, United's boss said, "We know we have to be realistic here and that we have a job to do.

"There is no miracle solution, it's not like buying seven players and suddenly we're in good shape, we're where we are.

"We have to go step by step and, of course, dedications will be made this summer."

United has lost five of its last seven games under the command of Solskjaer, who has an almost-complete squad for this weekend, with midfielder Ander Herrera returning to training.

Solskjaer added: "When you are there, there is no hiding place, you can not hide and everyone can see where your levels are.

"We are also working on training here with a fantastic staff, I have to create the culture we want.

"You have players to take care of what's going on here too. But of course, field performance will determine where their careers are. If it's short-term, long-term, every day.

"That's what we talked about in Barcelona as well. When you are in big stages, you have to step up because there is absolutely no hiding place. "
