A new patent could reveal what Sony has planned for its next mobile device.

As reported by Techtastic (thanks, Engadget), a patent filed at the Korean Patent Office at the same time last year, reveals that Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. has patented an "electronic game cartridge" device. The deposit has just been made public.

There are very, very few details in the five-page document – the deposit is pretty much the only detail on which the device will be made of "synthetic resin, metal" – but on the few diagrams provided, it seems that the device connects to / from a USB or HMDI port at one end.

As Engadget rightly claims, this type of device would be consistent with what was said by Sony's director, John Kodera, in May, when he had suggested that "instead of separating the mobile game consoles, it is necessary to continue thinking about [portable gaming] as a method to offer more gaming experiences ".
