Tan Kin Lian, former presidential candidate and former CEO of NTUC Income, went on his Facebook today (August 8th) to make fun of Prime Minister Emeritus Goh Chok Tong for not having attended the Raffles Institution meeting.
In his message, Mr. Tan published a photo of a group of people and said that "it is a gathering of old Rafflesians".
He added that he had seen Dr. Tan Cheng Bock, Secretary General of the Singapore Party for Progress (PSP) at the meeting, but that he had not been able to see ESM Goh. On the sarcastic side, he wrote that the former prime minister "must have gone astray".
ESM Goh recently pronounced the word "lost of his way" to Dr. Tan's address in a Facebook post, indicating the latter's political decision to leave the Party of Popular Action. (PAP) to create an opposition party (PSP).
ESM Goh said, "Tan Cheng Bock was my classmate at the Raffles Institution. I have known him for almost 60 years. It saddens me to see how he got lost. "
He added: "It's like Don Quixote rocking windmills," which means attacking imaginary enemies, according to an expression in Miguel de Cervantes' Spanish novel.
Upon reading Mr. Tan's message, many applauded his sense of humor when he inserted the right sentence at the right time. Many also agreed with Mr. Tan and stated that ESM Goh had indeed "lost his way". Some even said that he had "lost his mind" because of his old age.
Others have said that ESM Goh will never be seen in such an event because it does not live up to its criteria. They explained that he would only mingle with people from an ivory tower and not participate in events bringing together these "mediocre peasants".
