The 2019 hatchback Mazda3 and sedan bring style and technological stakes

The new Mazda3 2019 has arrived and Mazda's curvaceous compact car promises a more upscale design, refined driving and interior comfort. Revealed this week at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the new Mazda3 might not come in a hybrid or hybrid form, but the automaker insists its new Skyactiv-X engine technology will have much better implications for transport.

It's an important car for Mazda. Since its debut in 2003, more than six million Mazda3s have been sold worldwide. Reflecting this, this new release is the first in the automaker's lineup to adopt Mazda's new Kodo design language interpretation, itself part of an initiative to expand the lineup.

Nothing is left to chance, therefore. Mazda has two distinct interpretations of the Mazda3, a sedan and a sedan. Although they can share a name, the automaker insists that both body styles are cars with very different personalities.

According to the manufacturer, the Mazda3 hatchback is for "free spirits" who want maximum flexibility. More conservative, perhaps, the Mazda3 sedan. The length has been lengthened compared to what you expect from a C-segment car, for a more elegant vehicle.

This new Kodo "Soul of Motion" design language means a more solid aesthetic, with clean curves rather than clean lines. The exterior lighting is new, headlights and taillights are brought back to the essentials. There is also a new color for the hatchback model, Polymetal Gray, designed to combine metal with the softness of shiny plastic.

Inside, the "less, it's more" mantra continues. The superfluous details of the center console were abandoned in favor of elegant and combined controls, plastics and other surfaces having a grain similar to that of leather. Rather than black plastic on the ordinary piano, sections of the dashboard use a two-layer molding to first deposit a laser-etched black layer and then a transparent layer on top. The tailgate can be made in an exclusive red Burgundy leather.

All of this promises to be more comfortable to drive too. The telescopic steering wheel offers an additional 10mm movement at each end, while the tilt adjustment of the front seat seat is now standard. The shifter is forward and mounted higher, as is the commander's control; the armrest can be extended.

An 8.8-inch screen is placed at the top of the dashboard, with an 8-speaker audio system as standard. A 12-speaker Bose system is an upgrade.

Three gasoline engines will be connected by a diesel engine. There are Skyactiv-G gasoline engines of 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 liters, as well as a 1.8-liter Skyactive D diesel engine. A new Skyactiv-X engine will debut on the Mazda3, using compression ignition for a 20 to 30% better performance than gasoline engines, but with a diesel-type torque. The actual power and economy figures for all transmissions will be confirmed as the launch approaches.

A 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission will be offered. Mazda i-Activ AWD will also be available, as will i-Activsense driver monitoring, which uses infrared cameras and LEDs to track its attention and state of fatigue due to eyelid movement. The front cross traffic alert is also available, as is the adaptive cruise control.

The prices of the Mazda3 2019 have yet to be confirmed. He will arrive in the United States in early 2019.
