A quarter of a century ago, Hollywood took a bet on a film in English with an essentially Asian cast. The last was the adaptation by Wayne Wang of the generational ripping-tear The Joy Luck Club which was released in 1993.
But with the release of the opulent romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians C is about to change. The film is based on Kevin Kwan's bestseller about a Sino-American woman who experiences cultural shock when she meets her boyfriend's family in Singapore.
Three of the stars of the rom-com – Ken Jeong, Nico Santos and the famous rapper and actress Awkwafina – were in Toronto Monday for the Canadian premiere. Before stepping on the red carpet, the trio joined Ryan Smolkin, founder and CEO of Smoke's Poutinerie, to build their own #CrazyRichPoutine worth $ 448.17.
After that, the Sun met them at TIFF Bell Lightbox to find out why their move was a game changer.
