The stars of the international hit "Crazy Rich Asians" were present Wednesday night to add a little sparkle to the opening night, also dynamic and effective, of the 29th edition of the Singapore International Film Festival.

Hundreds of moviegoers gathered in front of the 85-year-old Neoclassical Capitol Theater to cheer on stars on the red carpet. The festival takes place as part of the Singapore Media Festival until 9 December.

Singaporean filmmaker Royston Tan, who will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of his feature debut "15: The Movie" at the festival, has hit the red carpet with festival executive director Yuni Hadi. Other personalities included Adele Wong, Jason Godfrey and Irene Ang. The guest of honor was Tan Kiat How, chief executive of Singapore's industry regulator, the Infocomm Media Development Authority.

The local stars of Crazy Rich Asians, Fiona Xie, a vision of Fendi; Constance Lau in a Stylease dress, Charles & Keith shoes and pearls from her mother; and Amy Cheng in a Jo Kilda outfit and Bern Sovereign Couture shoes.

"The key to all this [“Crazy Rich Asians” phenomenon] was nobody expecting anything, "said Xie Variety. "It was like a huge summer camp turned viral. We are so happy that Singapore has been put on the map. I just got back from Beijing. We hope to convey this love to even more people around the world and tell our story in Singapore. "

Lau continued in the same vein. "We all did it for our love of cinema and acting. We did not expect it to be so successful. It's very damning, "she said.

The festival kicked off with the premiere of the Taiwanese black film "Cities of Last Things" in Southeast Asia. Director Ho Wi Ding directed his casting on the red carpet. They included Ding Ning, who recently won the Golden Horse for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in the film, and Huang Lu. The biggest cheers of the evening were reserved for their co-star Shih Chin- hang, AKA Stone from the popular Mayday group.
