BERLIN – German prosecutors on Monday accused a 59-year-old man of stealing many items, including diaries, from the late Beatle John Lennon.

The accused, identified as Erhan G., will be the subject of a lawsuit for theft and fraud.

He is accused of having received in 2014 money from an auction house for items stolen from the apartment of Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, in New York.

He was arrested in Berlin last year.

At the time, prosecutors said he had "given wide confessions".

In addition to Lennon 's diaries, the police found again last year after the bankruptcy of Berlin, letters, postcards, drawings, a live recording of a Beatles concert and the musician' s glasses.

The objects were allegedly stolen by the driver of Ono in 2006.

The driver, Koral Karsan, lives in Turkey and the German police have not been able to detain him.

He worked for Ono from 1995 to 2006. He spent 60 days in prison in 2007 in the United States for trying to blackmail her.

Prosecutors did not explain how G. obtained the stolen items in Karsan.

With Paul McCartney, Lennon wrote some of the greatest successes of the Fab Four before the split of the band in 1970.
