Veteran actor Sir Ian McKellen claims he is feeling ‘euphoric’ after becoming one of the first people in the world to receive Pfizer’s new Chinese coronavirus vaccine.

Sir Ian, 81, received his vaccine on Wednesday at Queen Mary’s University Hospital in London as the UK government rolls out vaccination services for the elderly, healthcare workers and people living in care homes.

“Anyone who has lived as long as me is alive because they have already been vaccinated,” he suggested. “I feel very lucky to have received the vaccine. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

the the Lord of the Rings star went on to praise Britain’s National Health Service (NHS), saying his vaccination was proof the public health system was working.

“Next time I come, well no, six days after I come next, I’m going to give them all a big hug – is that allowed?” I don’t know, ”Sir Ian said. “That’s the real bonus of it all, watching and seeing what works in this country and what doesn’t – and it seems to me the NHS is right at the top of the list of institutions that work.

“Of course I know I wouldn’t be alive without the NHS,” he continued. “I’m a little older than the NHS, but as a kid to have good medical treatment available when needed – what a wonderful notion.

The UK is the first country in the world to roll out its mass vaccination program, with the US expected to follow soon after. All people receiving Pfizer vaccine should be boosted 21 days after their first injection.

Hollywood director Oliver Stone revealed on Tuesday that he recently took the Russian vaccine known as Sputnik V, despite concerns from overseas health experts about its effectiveness. The 74-year-old admitted he was “hopeful” it will work after hearing “good things” about its effectiveness.
