Gandolf understood it! Sir Ian McKellen, the legendary 81-year-old British actor best known for his role as Gandolf in the the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Magneto in the X Men franchise, became one of the first celebrities to receive her first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
McKellen, wearing a rainbow striped scarf, received her first blow from an NHS nurse at Queen Mary’s University Hospital in London on Wednesday, choosing to go public with her story to encourage others to get vaccinated.
“I feel very lucky to have had the vaccine. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone,” said McKellen, who raised his thumb to the camera after receiving the vaccine. “I really hope that as more and more people get vaccinated, we will move forward on the path to returning to a more normal lifestyle.
McKellen told Britain Evening standard newspaper that the stroke was “painless,” adding, “It’s a very special day, I feel euphoric.”
He continued to encourage others to get vaccinated, sharing, “You don’t just do it for yourself but for the people you are close to – you are doing your part for society.”
the Evening standard also revealed that Great British Cooking Judge Prue Leith was one of the first to receive the first round of vaccinations.
