SiriusXM makes its streaming service more affordable for younger consumers with the launch of a new subscription package for students. Although the SiriusXM Premier package is $ 12.99 per month, the new read-only offer will cost only $ 4 per month, a 69% discount. That's one dollar less than competitors' plans, including $ 4.99 a month for Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music Unlimited, YouTube Music and even Pandora, owned by SiriusXM.

This move represents a big advantage for a growing user base that prefers to subscribe to streaming music services rather than shopping in digital markets, such as iTunes or Amazon.

Although the SiriusXM brand has long been associated with a vehicle upgrade option, the service has strived to establish itself as a viable option outside of the car. In April, she launched a streaming subscription only for car-less listeners.

Today, SiriusXM broadcasts on phones and tablets, on the web and at home on connected devices such as Amazon Alexa, Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Smart TVs, Speakers Sonos, Xbox and Sony PlayStation.

Like other student packages, the SiriusXM Student Plan is not a diluted subscription. It provides access to SiriusXM's full line of music, including over 200 ad-free channels, offering music and radio programming as well as sports, entertainment, comedy, lifestyle, news and entertainment programs. etc.

It also includes some of SiriusXM's most recent additions, following the $ 3.5 billion acquisition of Pandora last year, which allowed Pandora content powered to his service. For example, companies have launched this spring Pandora NOW, a station that broadcasts on both services that use the Pandora listener data to extract the new tracks most listened to and most popular among Pop, Hip Hop, R & B, Dance and Latin.

In addition, students will have access to more than 100 SiriusXM Xtra channels that allow you to switch from one song to another, the company said.

The service does not include the possibility of streaming on cars. This is a student version of SiriusXM's streaming plan.

To enroll in the service, students will need to check their status as a registered student by providing their university or college name when they register. The verification process is managed by SheerID, which also provides verification for other users of the space, such as YouTube, Spotify, and so on.

"Today's students grew up listening to SiriusXM in their parents' car and we now have a package specifically designed for them," said Matt Epstein, vice president of SiriusXM Outside the Car, in a statement. "Our Student Premier offer allows students to subscribe to their own subscription and continue to enjoy the SiriusXM programming they enjoy in their dorms, at home or on the go," he said.
