In just three weeks, six unvaccinated family members in Florida died after contracting COVID-19.

After attending the funeral of Tyrone Moreland, 48-year-old family member, 89-year-old grandmother Lillie Mae Dukes Moreland was hospitalized with the virus and died just 24 hours later, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Three other cousins died soon after their grandmother, and the family’s most recent loss was Trentarian Moreland, 44, who died on Sunday.

Surviving family member Lisa Wilson said she believed she could trace at least two of the family’s deaths in a pantry where her loved ones had worked, but she does not know where the others contracted the virus, the Post reported.

Wilson had spent weeks door-to-door in Belle Glade, Florida, encouraging people to get vaccinated. She had tried unsuccessfully to persuade her family members to get vaccinated before they died.

“I was in their ears almost every day. “You just have to do that,” Wilson told the Post. “I fight myself. Should I have pushed harder?

More than 65% of Floridians are vaccinated, and death rates and the spread of the virus began to decline in the state after a brutal August, according to weekly COVID-19 data from the Florida Department of Health.
