When the Jets sacked Mike Maccagnan as general manager in May, the surprise was the timing rather than the decision to find someone else to manage their personnel department.

The Jets were 24-40 over four seasons with Maccagnan and Todd Bowles as head coach. Nobody would have been shocked if Maccagnan had been released with Bowles in January. He stayed there for another draft, even though these six choices will not bring much fruit to the Jets this season.

Jachai Polite's third-round pick was cut by new GM Joe Douglas on Saturday and cornerback halfback Blessaun Austin is on the injured list. The Jets also eliminated Elijah McGuire, sixth player of 2017, and Charone Peake, seventh of 2016, while they exchanged the sixth player of 2018, Parry Nickerson.

In total, only 16 of the 34 choices chosen by Maccagnan remained in the organization. The Jets occupy third place in the derogation order and Douglas has made it clear that he is planning to use it, so that number could fall further before the start of the season.

Maccagnan signed the agreement to land quarterback Sam Darnold in 2018 and its development would alleviate some of the major shortcomings, but there is no doubt that the Jets' poor performance in recent years is directly related to their minimal returns in the repechage .
