SLO Co. Adds 81 COVID-19 Cases, 4 New Deaths

San Luis Obispo County added 81 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the county’s total to 6,540 confirmed cases as of December 4.

In addition, four new deaths were reported, bringing the county’s total to 42 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Health officials say one person was in their 50s and had no underlying health issues. The others were between 60 and 90 years old and had underlying health issues, officials said.

According to the public health department, 14 people are hospitalized, including a patient in intensive care. Another 779 people are recovering at home and health officials say 5,700 people have recovered.

Breakdown of cases by location:

  • San Luis Obispo – 1,527
  • California Men’s Colony (inmates) – 295
  • Cal Poly (on campus) – 253
  • Atascadero State Hospital (patients) – 24

The location of an additional 23 cases is under investigation and a further seven are listed as ‘other’, which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Department of Public Health does not identify these locations.

Community COVID-19 testing sites are currently open to the public in Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles and Morro Bay.
