SLO County Reports 151 New Cases of COVID-19, 1 More Death

San Luis Obispo County added 151 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the county’s total to 18,038 confirmed cases as of February 2.

The number of COVID-19-related deaths in the county has increased by one case to a total of 178 deaths.

Health officials say 51 people are currently hospitalized. Another 1,105 people are recovering at home and health officials say 16,673 people have recovered.

San Luis Obispo County reports that 19 of the 38 licensed and staffed intensive care beds in the county are currently occupied. Eleven of them are taken by COVID-19 patients.

Updated reopening measures were also released on Tuesday, and San Luis Obispo County remains solidly in the purple level.

As the county reaches the positivity rates required to move to the next level, the county’s adjusted case rate improved only slightly to 22.6 from 23.8 the week before, still well above 7% required to go to the red level.

In order to move to the next level, the county must remain in the purple level for at least three weeks and meet the state’s adjusted case rate and positivity testing criteria.

The whereabouts of an additional 68 cases are under investigation, and six more are listed as “other”, which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The public health department does not identify these locations.

Community COVID-19 testing sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach, and Nipomo.
