SLO County Reports 179 New COVID-19 Cases, 2 More Deaths

San Luis Obispo County reports the deaths of two other people who tested positive for COVID-19.

Health officials said both patients were 80 and 90 years old. Both had underlying health issues.

San Luis Obispo County also added 179 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the county’s total to 8,269 confirmed cases as of December 17.

Twenty-seven people are hospitalized, including eight patients in intensive care. Another 1,606 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,568 people have recovered.

San Luis Obispo County has had 56 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

  • California Men’s Colony (inmates) – 471
  • Grover Beach – 305

  • Cal Poly (campus residents) – 256
  • San Miguel – 253
  • Bears – 154
  • Morro Bay – 140
  • Pismo Beach – 126
  • Shandon – 76
  • Saint Margaret – 65
  • Cambria – 57
  • Creston – 38
  • Cayucos – 29
  • Atascadero State Hospital (patients) – 26
  • Avila Beach – 13
  • San Simeon – 7

The location of an additional 26 cases is under investigation, and another 10 are listed as “other”, which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Department of Public Health does not identify these locations.

Community COVID-19 testing sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach, and Nipomo.
