Piers Morgan hit back at ITV head Dame Carolyn McCall after claiming the broadcaster had “vigorously” defended him against his comments about Meghan Markle earlier this year.

The 56-year-old presenter shared a post on Twitter about his former boss’s comments last night, asking him, “So why did I have to leave?”, Alongside a laughing emoji.

Dame McCall had told the Royal Television Society Cambridge Convention: “I will just say that we have vigorously defended both the program and Piers to Ofcom, and the reason we weren’t stopped by them is because of the program creation. “

She added that there was “no way we weren’t absolutely, not just for free speech and free speech,” but defending it.

She said she expected to see Mr Morgan “working on a global platform overnight”.

Mr Morgan left Good Morning Britain (GMB) in March after refusing to apologize for saying he “didn’t believe a word” of what Ms Markle claimed in her explosive interview with Oprah.

The episode became the most criticized moment in Ofcom history – but the TV watchdog cleared him of any wrongdoing earlier this month.

Mr Morgan was effectively deported when he refused to apologize – later stating in an Instagram post that he had become the latest “victim” of “culture cancellation” while warning that freedom of expression was the “most important” problem in modern Britain. .

Mr Morgan had said he “didn’t believe a word” of Ms Markle’s claims, including that she had felt “suicidal” after being abused by the Royals and that her baby Archie had been the victim of racism .

The presenter clashed with GMB meteorologist Alex Beresford, who accused him of unfairly “trashing” the Duchess of Sussex and calling him “evil”, prompting Mr Morgan to leave the set.

He was then contacted by a senior ITV executive who asked him to apologize for questioning Ms Markle’s account of his mental health, but he refused and resigned instead.

The comments sparked tens of thousands of complaints with Ofcom, but the broadcasting regulator defended Mr Morgan’s right to free speech when he cleared him of any wrongdoing earlier this this month.

He remained furious on Wednesday when his old show interviewed jihadist bride Shamima Begum, who donned quintessentially Western-style clothing as she called on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to be brought home – before brazenly telling him that he “doesn’t know what he’s doing” with regard to his fight against terrorism.

Mr Morgan said Begum was given the opportunity to “exercise his right to free speech” – when he claims he was not allowed to do the same with Ms Markle.

“An interesting time we live in when an ISIS terrorist wife is allowed to exercise her right to free speech on GMB but I was not…” he tweeted.

The journalist also called Begum a “selfish monster” who should be “left to rot” in Syria.

He said: “Just as well as I didn’t interview this lying, whiny, selfish ISIS bride freak, otherwise I would have seriously lost my temper by now.

“Begum should never be allowed to return to Britain. Let her rot in the bed of terror she made for herself.

“If you knew what I did, you would have done the same”: Sajid Javid defends his decision to withdraw Shamima Begum’s British nationality

Sajid Javid (now) has hit back at Shamima Begum’s claims that she played no role in Islamic State terrorism.

Begum claims she was just a housewife in Raqqa trying to live a “pure Islamic life”.

But the security services would have proof that she was active in ISIS’s reign of terror, that she carried a Kalashnikov rifle and that she became an “executioner” of the “police of the morality ”of the terrorist group that applied Sharia law and made sure women wore the right clothes and covered their bodies.

Sources claimed Ms Begum was seen preparing suicide vests for would-be suicide bombers, sewing them into them.

Mr Javid declined to comment on the allegations – but hinted that he believed she was lying.

Referring to his decision while he was Home Secretary to strip Begum of his British citizenship, the Health Secretary said: “I won’t go into the details of the case, but what I will say , is that you certainly did not see what I saw. “

He added: “If you knew what I knew, because you are sensible and responsible people, you would have made the exact same decision – I have no doubt.”

In the interview which angered her on Wednesday, Shamima Begum donned Western clothes as she called herself a victim and begged Britain for forgiveness in a deaf interview from a Syrian refugee camp.

She also denied being a terrorist or a criminal and insisted she had no idea ISIS was a “death cult” when she joined.

The 22-year-old is banned from the UK after marrying a jihadist with spy agencies, denying she was just a housewife from Raqqa and instead believe she was a member of the dreaded terrorist group “morality police” and has even been seen sewing suicide bombers. in explosive vests and wearing a Kalashnikov.

But wearing a Nike baseball cap and a low-cut tank top instead of a niqab, Begum said she was the victim of grooming by extremists, that she “would rather die” than join ISIS and admitted that she was wrong to say that the attack on Manchester Arena was “justified” because of the airstrikes that killed civilians in Syria.

She told Good Morning Britain: “No one can hate me more than I hate myself for what I’ve done and all I can say is I’m sorry and give me a second chance”, but she added that she was “groomed and taken advantage and manipulated to get to Syria.

Denying that she was a criminal, she said: “The only crime I think I committed was being stupid enough to come to ISIS.”

But Health Secretary Sajid Javid, who revoked his British citizenship in 2019 on national security grounds while serving as Home Secretary, hinted Begum was lying about just being a “mother.” and wife “in Syria.

He said: “I will not go into the details of the case, but what I will say is that you certainly did not see what I saw.” He added: “If you knew what I knew, because you are sensible and responsible people, you would have made the exact same decision – I have no doubt.”

The east London schoolgirl who threw off her veil a year ago and now smoothes her dyed hair, paints her nails and puts on make-up, fled her home in 2015 to join the so-called terror group of the Islamic State in Syria along with two friends both now believed to be dead. She denies that her change of image was a publicity stunt.

Begum also made a mind-boggling offer to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who wants her not to be in Britain, she said: “You are clearly fighting extremism and terrorism in your country.

“I could help you a lot because you clearly don’t know what you are doing.”

She added: “I want them (the British public) to see me as an asset rather than a threat to them.”

She begged to be brought back to the UK to face a terrorism trial. When asked why she wouldn’t go to Bangladesh, she replied: “How can a country like the UK that doesn’t believe in the death penalty, how can they expect j go to a country where I will be killed? “

She said: “I know it is very difficult for the British to try to forgive me because they lived in fear of Isis and lost loved ones because of Isis, but I also lived in fear of Isis and I have also lost loved ones because of Isis, so I can empathize with them that way.

“I know it is very difficult for them to forgive me, but I say from the bottom of my heart that I am so sorry if I have ever offended someone by coming here, if I have ever offended someone by what I said.”
