A muttered “it’s not you, it’s me” is no longer the first sign that a relationship is over.
Researchers have found that it’s possible to identify when a romance is doomed months before either party realizes it – thanks to almost imperceptible changes in their vocabulary.
“It seems that even before people know a breakup is going to happen, it starts to affect their lives,” said Sarah Seraj, of the University of Texas at Austin, who led the study.
“Even when they’re not talking about their relationship, their style of speaking changes.”
Seraj and his colleagues used a computer to analyze more than a million posts written by nearly 7,000 users of Reddit, the social media forum. They looked at the messages
