Solo Back 4 Blood sounds worse than it is

Back 4 Blood has a big warning if you’re trying to go solo, and it’s started to panic some players. But fear not, lonely zombies: Back 4 Blood with bots isn’t as bad as it sounds.

If you go to the menu and select Single Player Campaign in Back 4 Blood, you will see a scary message:

Use the single player decks created in the Fort Hope deck menu. Maps and objectives will be adjusted. Matchmaking and player invitations are disabled. Earning supply points is disabled. Statistics tracking is disabled. Progress towards achievements is disabled.

It all sounds very punitive, as Turtle Rock Studios would really prefer you not to experience their game that way. But a single player campaign is actually a great sandbox mode for people who want to try new things or play at their own pace.

Back 4 Blood gives players a card system that impacts stats and certain abilities during a race. Normally, players must use Supply Points to unlock these cards. But for single player decks, all cards are immediately unlocked in the menu. There is no purchase necessary; you just build the bridge you want and go.

In this context, the rest of the restrictions start to make sense. Supply points are used to unlock cards, and you don’t need them when you already have them all – plus Turtle Rock probably doesn’t want players to endlessly cultivate points with bots, which would trivialize it. game economy (you cannot buy cards with real money).

Since solo instances are different, it also makes sense not to allow invites. And achievements – Back 4 Bloodname for achievements – may be easier or even exploitable with fully upgraded decks and bots, underestimating some of the rewards that come with them.

In my review session, I played the first four levels of Back 4 Blood with robots. My biggest problem was their general stupidity on recruiting difficulty and their inability to complete main story objectives or mount turrets. But, in a way, I had more agency in my playtime. It was a quieter apocalypse most of the time, where I wasn’t rushing to follow the hikes on the internet or waiting for that. slowpokes know what to do.

Back 4 Blood is certainly Following fun with real players, and probably even better with a group of friends who shoot shit. But it’s not a terrible solo experience. And with the increased variety of missions in Back 4 Blood, solo players who just want to see all the levels should have a great time dragging an AI with them through the zombie horde.
