Some Michigan well water can lead to heart disease

LANSING, MI (AP) – Michigan is one of the US states with the highest concentration of arsenic in groundwater.

New research now shows that drinking water can lead to heart problems in young adults.

The researchers took urine samples from more than 1,300 healthy adults living in areas that depended on well water.

People exposed to arsenic were 47% more likely to have thickening of the left ventricle, which is the main pumping chamber of the heart.

Experts say that thickening could increase the risk of future heart problems.

Scientists say that it is important to test your water for the presence of arsenic if you are using a private well.
