Some thoughts on xCloud and the future of Xbox (Premium)

Yesterday Microsoft released its first public demonstration of Project xCloud, its next multi-platform game streaming service. This one is personal to me: I've been among the first, if not the first, to point out that Microsoft should evolve the Xbox platform beyond consoles and PCs. And in doing so, he could align his efforts with his prowess in the cloud and surpass traditional competitors such as Sony and Nintendo.

I am still very convinced that all this is true and when Microsoft revealed the xCloud project last October, I was delighted. Not so much about being right in itself, but rather about the software giant's projects aligning so closely with how I saw his future. On a very personal level, I want the Xbox to succeed. I prefer this platform to those of Microsoft's competitors. I bristled at what I considered as a useless criticism of its strategy and I had long thought that Xbox was the most player-centric platform. Take the Xbox – and with it, Microsoft – move to the next level with xCloud seems to me quite logical.
