Sony Vision-S electric car hits the road for safety tests

At CES 2020, Sony – yeah, Sony – showed off a car. Wild times. Although CES 2021 did not provide us with another automobile company of a Japanese company, the company released a new video of its Vision-S electric car tests in Austria, on public roads. This is a big step forward for the company, although Sony maintains that it is not eager to build cars. If nothing else, the video provides a great test for the new business Airpeak drone, which captured the aerial images.

Instead, Sony said the public testing of Vision-S was aimed at validating the safety systems developed for the car. After all, the Vision-S was meant to be an ongoing showcase of the company’s sensors and imaging technologies, as well as infotainment technology planned for the automotive industry. In the new video, we can see the multi-panel display in the front and center for driver information, infotainment and more. The fact that everything works is impressive considering that the car is not destined for production. That didn’t stop Sony from working with Magna Steyr last year to bring the car to the streets of Austria for the first time.

Assuming Sony doesn’t change course and decides to build the car, Vision-S will continue to roll around and test the company’s technologies. Last year, the tech firm said the car’s features Partially automated technology level 2 with its 33 fixed sensors. The level of autonomy will increase, according to Sony, so we may have to wait for another CES to see what will come from Vision-S.
