According to Mike Mayer of Metsmerized, the New York Mets “are doing well” on a possible left-handed swap deal Steven matz.
Matz, 29, was a Mets second-round pick (72nd overall) in the 2009 Ward Melville High Draft in East Setauket, NY.
Since debuting in 2015, Matz has shown flashes of frontline tricks and dealt with episodes of inconsistency, holding a 4.35 ERA (4.49 FIP) with a total of 5.2 wins over the replacement (FanGraphs) in his career.
Matz’s second half of 2019 was arguably his high water mark with New York, hitting a 3.52 ERA in his last 14 starts, including a formidable stretch that saw him register a 1 ERA. , 94 with 42 strikeouts and nine marches in seven starts from Aug. 7 to Sept. 11.
Who the Mets are negotiating with is unknown at this time, but keep it locked to MMO as we gather more information.
