South Carolina man accused of stealing ambulance, firefighter’s uniform

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – A South Carolina man has been charged with leading police after he stole an ambulance and a firefighter’s uniform on Friday, authorities said.

According to a Press release of Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Carlos Zadier Colon, 20, of Hilton Head Island, has been charged with motor vehicle robbery, nonstop blue light and petty theft.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a Hilton Head Island fire ambulance was stolen from the shipyard fire hall around 1:00 p.m. EDT, WCSC reported. MPs spotted the stolen vehicle about 30 minutes later, the TV station reported.

MPs said Colon tried to outrun MPs but struck a building after entering a Publix parking lot at Island Crossings Center shopping mall, OMCC reported.

According to the sheriff’s office Press releaseColon was in a stolen Hilton Head Island firefighter uniform when he was arrested.

The ambulance and the Publix supermarket building sustained minor damage, the the sheriff’s office said.
