LIMA – US Senate candidate Jane Timken stopped in Lima Thursday morning for a campaign event at the Harley-Davidson store. Timken has presented herself as the “America First” candidate in a crowded GOP field seeking to win Senator Rob Portman’s seat in 2022.
At the event, Timken was joined by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, who traveled to Ohio with Timken to express support for the campaign.
“I am incredibly blessed to have the support of Governor Kristi Noem. She is a strong and conservative woman, ”said Timken. “It’s great to have these fighters like her who are going to defend our country.”
Timken, the former Ohio GOP chairperson, has touted his record as a key player in helping former President Donald Trump win the state. She also harshly criticized the COVID mask and vaccine mandates, as well as the teaching of critical race theory in schools.
These same sentiments are shared by Governor Noem, who made it a point to visit Ohio not only to support Timken, but also to hear about issues and ideas she can bring back to her home country. .
“The people here all have the same spirit of hard work, the value of family, so there is a lot about their state that really resonates with me just because they remind me of all my neighbors and family back home. “said Noem. “I think a lot of what I share in terms of our experience in our state, they can pick up and use and then teach me as well.”
During his address to Timken supporters, Noem stressed the need to strengthen the GOP by spreading its message instead of being divided by it.
“We have people in our lives who we have stopped talking to. We think they are so on the left that they are a lost cause and we have stopped talking to them. I need you to recover, said Noem. “Start building relationships with people again. Go sit down and listen to them. Take away the anger and emotion. Listen to their thoughts and feelings, and make sure you hear them, then you will start talking about politics.
Timken also expressed the importance of taking care of rural Ohio towns like Lima.
“We need our economy to move, we need our workers to get back to work, we need to stand up for our farmers,” Timken said. “Plus our manufacturing base is incredibly large and we do a lot here in Ohio, so I’m going to take that message to the people here.”
As the couple traveled across the state together, it’s clear that one of the country’s most conservative governors fully supported Timken’s campaign.
“I really believe in Jane,” Noem said. “I think she’s a hard worker, she makes good decisions. She would truly be a wonderful United States Senator from the great state of Ohio.
