Space Force troops will be called “guardians,” Vice President Mike Pence said on Friday.
“I have the honor, on behalf of the President of the United States, to announce that henceforth the men and women of the United States Space Force will be known as Guardians,” Pence told the White House. “Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Guardians will defend our nation for generations to come.”

The new name comes after the Sixth Branch of the Army unveiled its “Sempra Supra” logo, flag and motto earlier this year.
“Guardians is a name with a long history in space operations, dating back to Air Force Space Command’s original command motto in 1983,“ Guardians of the High Frontier, ”the Space Force said Friday.
“The Guardians name connects our proud heritage and culture with the important mission we carry out 24/7, protecting the people and interests of the United States and its allies.
