SpaceX Starlink could expand global access to cryptocurrencies

With the launch of its first satellites in orbit, SpaceX intends to bring the Internet to everyone with Starlink.

Starlink is one of SpaceX's most formidable projects. It aims to send satellites into orbit and create a space Internet network. The satellites are designed to be the initial phase of a network architecture capable of sending high-speed Internet service signals from space to customers around the world.

With the latest launch, SpaceX has already sent 60 satellites into orbit, now traveling the United States and Canada. The project wants to begin serving customers in both regions as soon as 360 satellites become operational – a milestone that could be reached by the end of 2019.

SpaceX Starlink: Providing the Internet everywhere

SpaceX's Starlink project is rather ambitious, but the end result will probably change the game. If this project succeeds, it would make low-latency Internet access to sites that previously enjoyed poor or nonexistent service. Imagine having a super-fast internet connection all the time, whether you're in the middle of a populated city or in the desert.

Ultimately, the goal is to provide global Internet coverage from space, with very low latency, which current satellites that broadcast on the Internet fail.

Increased Internet coverage and access to cryptocurrencies

By building a network of satellites around the world, the SpaceX Starlink network allows low-income people to have better access to everything the Internet has to offer. This is all the more critical as the growth of the Internet has slowed in the past two years, leaving nearly half of the world's population out of the network.

It also means that the use of Bitcoin (BTC) or any other cryptocurrency will become even easier and more accessible worldwide. Having the space-based Internet as an alternative to connect to the Bitcoin blockchain looks like a sci-fi movie – but would be possible with Starlink.

More importantly, underserved regions will not only have access to the Internet, but will also have the opportunity to know and utilize decentralized crypto-currencies and emerging technologies.
