Starship will open a new frontier in SpaceX's extraterrestrial ambitions. And the SpaceX rocket to Mars is about to take a step closer to becoming a reality. CEO Elon Musk recently revealed that SpaceX is about to propose an update of the stainless steel retro rocket, "probably" at the same time next month.

SpaceX's director, Elon Musk, received drip cues. On June 20th, an orbital prototype will be presented.

Starship's Super Heavy booster has been taking shape for two months.

And the CEO of SpaceX announced that the orbital prototype of the spacecraft would be ready around June.

Images from the test facility showed the catchy ship under construction.

SpaceX has made rapid progress in achieving its goal of developing a vessel capable of handling more ambitious missions as well as more standard cargo missions for commercial customers.

SpaceX unveiled the first Starship designs in September 2017 as BFR.

The first version of Starship had a diameter of 30 feet, a height of 348 feet and a weight of 9.7 million pounds.

Starship's Raptor engine will use liquid oxygen and methane instead of the standard thruster.

This means that manned missions can establish propellant deposits and return home from Mars – or even venture further and establish a global network.

Each Raptor engine provides a thrust of 38,000 pounds, of which 31 total allow a take-off thrust of 10.8 million pounds.

This equates to doubling the capacity of the Falcon Heavy, currently the most powerful SpaceX rocket in operation.

Seven other engines will be installed on the ship itself.

In January 2019, Musk explained that Starship would incorporate transpiration cooling technology to keep the ship at an appropriate temperature.

The new stainless steel design would essentially allow a liquid to pass through a porous surface and keep the exterior cool.

Starship is expected to enter the Martian atmosphere at 16,777 mph. With a melting point of 1,530 degrees Celsius, it is a more suitable material than aluminum, capable of surviving at only 600 degrees Celsius.

In April 2019, SpaceX made its first captive jumps with the Starhopper, a miniaturized version of the ship.

And the first unbound flights of Starhopper are expected during the summer.
