SpaceX’s Elon Musk Prepares Bathroom Upgrades After ‘Inspiration4 Challenges’

Billionaire Elon Musk said SpaceX is already planning improvements for its next flight following Inspiration4’s successful all-civilian crew mission earlier this month.

Musk tweeted on Monday that he had met the Inspiration4 crew to congratulate the members on the historic flight. After the meeting, the SpaceX founder suggested that the bathrooms in the company’s Crew Dragon space capsule could use an upgrade.

“Definitely an improved toilet 🙂 We had some issues with this theft,” Musk joked on Twitter.

The Inspiration4 crew spent three days in orbit before diving into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida last weekend. The mission was the first in history to circle the earth without a professional astronaut on board.

While answering questions from Twitter followers, Musk also teased other potential improvements for the Dragon capsule.

“Yes, a little oven for reheating food and Starlink wifi,” Musk said in reference to his satellite internet initiative.

The Inspiration4 mission crew included billionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, who purchased all four seats, as well as St. Jude’s Hospital staff member Hayley Arceneaux, data engineer Chris Sembroksi and Professor of Sian Proctor University.

The Crew Dragon capsule had a bathroom located in its ceiling. The bathroom featured a 360-degree glass dome overlooking the space, Business Insider reported in July.

“It’s not a ton of privacy. But you have that kind of privacy curtain running through the top of the spaceship, so you can separate yourself from everyone,” Isaacman told the outlet. “And that’s also where the glass dome is. So, you know, when people inevitably have to use the bathroom, they’re going to have a hell of a view.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
