Michigan State University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. and Director of Diversity Jabbar Bennett briefed students on the required online course on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, or DCI, Foundations by email Tuesday.

The new module, which joins the relationship violence and sexual misconduct, or RVSM, courses that students are already expected to take, aims to help establish a “culture of inclusion among all Spartans at MSU.”

Students who are due to take the course will be notified by email notification, according to Stanley and Bennett. A refresher course for those who have already taken the module is currently not planned.

In addition to the compulsory course, Stanley and Bennett pointed out that the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives offers a variety of workshops, seminars and programs to support learning around prejudices, DCI language and construction of ‘an inclusive community.

“MSU aspires to achieve inclusive excellence that supports respect and accountability,” wrote Stanley and Bennett. “You deserve a university that affirms everyone’s presence and DCI Foundations is an essential part of that imperative. “
