“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is officially in production, Paramount Plus announced Friday.
The announcement came in the form of a video starring series Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck, as well as new series regulars Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush and Melissa Navia. The full announcement can be viewed above.
“Strange New Worlds” is based on the years when Captain Christopher Pike (Mount) led the USS Enterprise before Captain Kirk. Mount, Romijn and Peck all made their first appearance in the “Star Trek” universe during Season 2 of “Star Trek: Discovery”. Romijn plays the role of first officer number one, while Peck plays the role of science officer Spock.
The series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with the story of Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. Kurtzman currently oversees the “Star Trek” franchise as part of its overall deal with CBS Studios. Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers are co-showrunners, with Goldsman directing the first episode. Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will be executive producers in addition to Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will be the co-executive producers. The series is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group manages the distribution.

This is the latest “Star Trek” series announced for Paramount Plus, formerly CBS All Access. “Strange New Worlds” joins a lineup of “Star Trek” shows that includes “Discovery”, “Picard” and the animated series “Lower Decks”. The animated series “Star Trek: Prodigy” is also slated to debut on the streamer.
