Star Wars lovers, the lightsaber duel is now an official sport in France

Good news, Jedi.

The French fencing federation has recognized the lightsaber duel as a competitive sport, reports the Associated Press.

Now you can channel your inner Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker or Qui-Gon Jinn (lol I'm laughing) with a judge from the French Fencing Federation watching you.

Here's how it works:

Two fighters enter a marked circle on a band, much like the Jedi of old. Hit your head or body and you get five points. Hit one leg or arm and you get three points; hitting a hand is worth only one point. First to 15 wins, or the one with the highest score after 3 minutes.

Unlike fencing, you must bring the lightsaber behind you before every shot. In this way, the public enjoys dramatic jumps instead of small wrist shots, such as fencing.

Remember though that if you hit your opponent, it will become more powerful than you can imagine. Or take a trip back to their mother's house.

Unfortunately, you can not just use the power of your imagination to compete.

You will have to fight with a replica of polycarbonate lightsaber lit by LEDs and wear appropriate protective equipment. Philippe Bondi, a 49-year-old police officer who decided to fight with a lightsaber after 20 years of fencing, told the AP he had spent about $ 400 in lightsaber and armor. Becoming a Jedi is not cheap.
