Starbucks is stepping up efforts to once again offer free coffee to frontline workers amid the ongoing pandemic.
The coffee giant said on Tuesday it would expand a new offering to first responders and healthcare workers across the country, granting them free large (hot or iced) coffee at participating establishments throughout December.
Frontline workers can redeem a free large coffee (hot or iced) throughout December 31st.

“It has been an extremely difficult year, especially for the frontline workers who serve our communities,” said Virginia Tenpenny, vice president of Starbucks’ Global Social Impact initiative. “We want to show our deep gratitude to those who support and protect us every day with a small gesture of kindness and a hot cup of coffee.”

To redeem their cups, frontline workers simply need to introduce themselves and identify themselves as such (no ID required). According to Starbucks, those eligible for the promotion include doctors, nurses, public health officials, pharmacists, dispatchers, firefighters, paramedics, police, dentists, dental hygienists, healthcare workers mental health workers, social workers, hospital staff (janitors / housekeeping / security, etc.) and active duty military personnel.

In addition to its free coffee offering, Starbucks is also preparing 50,000 care packages and gift cards to distribute to frontline workers through Operation Gratitude. The company also donated $ 100,000 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to help provide remote mental health resources to essential workers in need.
In 2020, the chain distributed more than 2 million cups to essential workers.

Starbucks previously extended a similar offer of free coffee to frontline workers closer to the start of the pandemic, between March 25 and May 31. So far in 2020, the chain has distributed over 2 million cups of coffee and 300,000 care packs (including coffee beans) to essential workers.
