Starbucks will provide free cups of coffee to health workers and first responders who worked during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It has been an extremely difficult year, especially for the frontline workers who serve our communities,” said Virginia Tenpenny, Starbucks vice president for Global Social Impact, in a press release. “We want to show our deep gratitude to those who support and protect us every day with a little gesture of kindness and a cup of coffee.”
Until the end of December, a customer “who identifies as a frontline responder to the COVID-19 outbreak” can walk into any Starbucks in the United States and receive a great coffee for free. brewed, hot or iced. The gift also extends to other hospital staff, such as janitors and security, mental health workers, and active duty military personnel.
The new promotion is an extension of a previous giveaway for healthcare workers on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. From late March through May, Starbucks pledged to give healthcare workers a free cup of coffee. At the end of April, the chain said it had already donated more than 1 million cups and says that number has since doubled to more than 2 million.
The giveaways are the latest in a series of actions the coffee chain has taken during the pandemic, including a $ 100,000 donation to the National Alliance on Mental Illness and a public pledge to provide care packages and gift cards to 50,000 frontline workers.
