The New York State Department of Health said a number of vaccines administered at the Jones Beach site on February 15 were not in the required temperature range when administered and were tried ineffective.

The state says it is reaching out to these people to schedule an appointment to receive another injection.

Officials say 81 of the nearly 1,400 people vaccinated at Jones Beach on February 15 have been affected by the ineffective doses of the vaccine and these people have been contacted.

The state says there was no harm in receiving these ineffective shots.

“Getting a third dose does nothing other than boost your immune system,” says Dr. Frederick Davis, of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. “So while it may have been sped up a bit with this partial dose which was kept at a different temperature, what it does is reexpose your system to a piece of this virus.”

Officials did not say exactly what caused the error.
