INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Public health officials have confirmed a new case of measles in northern Indiana.
They work with local health authorities in LaGrange and Steuben counties to identify anyone who may have been exposed to the infected patient to prevent its spread. They also consult their counterparts in Michigan and Texas, because they could also be exposed in those states because of the same case.
Anyone who visited these places on the dates indicated may have been exposed:

If you have been exposed to any of these places, watch for symptoms until April 21st. Symptoms begin with fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, usually 7 to 10 days after exposure, but can sometimes occur up to 21 days after the 'n'. exposure. The fever can reach 105 degrees. Two to four days later, a rash begins on the face and upper neck before spreading in the back and torso, then on the arms, hands, legs and feet. Vaccination is the best defense against measles, according to the Indiana Department of Health. Most people will have been vaccinated against measles as children with the MMR vaccine (measles, mups and rubella). You need two doses of the vaccine to be fully protected. This is why children in this country are systematically vaccinated at the age of 12-15 months and again aged 4 to 6 years old before going to kindergarten.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from the beginning of the year to March 28, nearly 400 individual cases of measles were confirmed in 15 states. This is the second majority of cases in the United States since the eradication of the disease in 2000. A case of measles was confirmed in Indiana last year.
Measles is so contagious that only one case is considered an epidemic, according to the state's Department of Health. When sneezing or coughing droplets of an infected person spread through the air or land on surfaces, they can continue to infect for two hours.
