FISHERS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Students at Fishers High School will participate in a science, technology, engineering, arts and math tournament over the next two months. The school is teaming up with Duke Energy Midwest and POWER Engineers for the competition, which calls on teams of students to design a simulated transmission line that crosses campus.
The tournament begins with a two-day workshop today and tomorrow where students work with Duke and POWER experts to learn each discipline. Students then collaborate with their teams over the next eight weeks to find solutions, and once proof of concept is completed, students will make presentations using drone photography, 3D printing, and virtual reality.
“Despite the COVID challenges of the past year, students have stepped up and found creative solutions for collaboration. We need smart people with a diversity of perspectives and experiences to help find solutions to the biggest challenges in the energy industry, so we hope some of these students will be inspired to pursue careers related to energy, ”said Holger Peller, executive vice president of POWER.
The event will culminate on November 18 at Fishers High School where teams will have 30 minutes to make their final solution presentations to a panel of experts.
