Stephen and Ayesha Curry were set to cheer on former Warriors teammate Nate Robinson in his first professional boxing match. Their excitement did not last long.
In less than two minutes, Robinson was knocked out by YouTuber Jake Paul, quickly ending the undercard game ahead of Mike Tyson’s relaunch bout on Saturday night. Paul, whose “controversies” section of his Wikipedia page lists his insistence that COVID-19 is a hoax, terrible and ongoing neighborly behavior, and occasional use of racial slurs, is now 2-0 as a professional boxer.
“It is difficult to judge the skill level of the 23-year-old Paul, as Robinson had no experience,” ESPN commented bluntly.
Robinson, 36, is a three-time NBA slam dunk contest champion and was a teammate with Curry during the 2012 season. Although their stint in the locker room was short, Curry is ready to cheer on Robinson:

But Robinson stood up, Curry decided it was clear to be making fun of his friend a little. On Robinson’s pre-fight tweet, where he said he would “shock the world”, Curry replied, “I don’t see any lies.” This tweet has over 32,000 retweets.
Former warrior Nick Young was also less than charitable in his assessment of Robinson’s performance.
Meanwhile, Ayesha Curry chose to look on the bright side after the disastrous fight.
“I don’t care about the knockout, I just think it’s cool to see someone try something new and step out of their comfort zone,” she wrote. “It’s dope and inspiring. You don’t have to be a thing. I never want to live a life where I look back and say I haven’t tried something I wanted.”
After being bombarded with responses criticizing her boxing take, Ayesha took the Twitter heat in stride.
“I should just delete the app,” she joked. “I got older… I’m 31 but I think I got older. It’s amazing.”
