Well how about that for the timing?
Two days after the Las Vegas Raiders cornerback position was hit with the injury bug, a leading player in that position is expected to hit the market later very soon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced this morning that the New England Patriots will release injured star cornerback Stephon Gilmore later Wednesday. Of course, it could be redeemed before the 1 p.m. PT deadline.
A stunner: The Patriots release Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who was eligible to drop off the physically unable to play list after Week 6, a source told ESPN. pic.twitter.com/31H8KQF8hq

This new morning surprise must be interesting within the walls of the Raiders’ facility in Henderson, Nevada. The team is beaten at the cornerback. Starter Trayvon Mullen left the field on a cart in Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers with a foot injury. Substitute Damon Arnette left with a groin injury, and rookie cornerback Nate Hobbs left with a concussion. Coach Jon Gruden said some of the injuries could be serious.
Gruden loves star players, so this situation is sure to intrigue the Raiders. Of course, securing it won’t be easy. It may require a trade, but if Gilmore hits the open market it won’t be cheap and there will be a lot of interest, as the tweets below illustrate:
The market for Stephon Gilmore, 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is expected to be robust. Several teams should be interested, and Gilmore, 31, is expected to recover from his quad injury in the coming weeks.

My understanding is that SFA CB Stephon Gilmore, who was set to make $ 7 million in base salary this season, is now looking to make at least $ 15 million a year in the open market. There are several teams that may be looking to boost their high school with attrition already in effect by week 5. https://t.co/ndlhoWFLjC

In the end, will the Raiders be players in the Gilmore draw? It wouldn’t shock me.
