“I was not physically ready to play in recent weeks,” he explained. “Things happen. I have to adapt to it. Nothing would stop me from playing with my teammates. It’s one thing that stuck with me. I’m just happy to progress and improve.”
Gilmore added that he was feeling “pretty good” after practice on Friday and that he was “preparing as I’m going to play this week.” He didn’t say definitively, however, that he would be available in Houston on Sunday afternoon.
Gilmore has missed each of the last three games after injuring his knee in practice with the Patriots. Bill Belichick admitted on Friday morning that – although Gilmore had been an exemplary teammate behind the scenes working to be healthy and helping others prepare to play when he couldn’t – the Patriots reportedly considered placing him on reserve wounded to free himself. a place in the roster if they knew his injury would result in a three-week hiatus from play. “We have great coaches here. We have great players. We have young players here who are getting better and better. I just enjoy the moment. I love being here. I love the culture. “I’m glad I’m a patriot.”
